Week 11 - Live Project

So after catching up on what's required for the Live Project, I think I'm on the same track as everyone else again.

Who is the Client and what is the Project?...

Siobhan Craig works for the Grow Community Garden organisation in North Belfast. Here is a bit about what Siobhan and her colleagues hope to achieve through this scheme...

The community garden at the Waterworks in North Belfast is managed by Grow and is set in an area of a Belfast City Council park. This public space has seen its fair share of trouble over the years and is protected by a huge fence. We have helped to turn this into a shared space, what was once a neglected corner of a park, a no mans land, has become an area where 20 or so gardeners from a wide variety of backgrounds and circumstances have come together to grow vegetable and their communities.
Siobhan would like a website to promote the organisation and the work they do, to make people aware and encourage others to get involved.

What does the Client want?...

The client would like 7/8 main pages. These include:
  • Home - banner, brief introduction to site, latest posts from the news blogs, live feeds from BBC Gardeners weather or another appropriate site
  • About - text about what Grow is, does and hopes to achieve in the future. To include Grows mission statement
  • Learn - A paragraph on various sections about what 'ingredients' a key to a Grow community garden.
  • The Gardens - A google map with markers pointing out the 2 gardens, Grow Waterworks community garden and Grow Helen's Bay community garden.
  • Get Involved - Wants this content split in to two pages. Why? and How? page.
  • Support - It's possible that these two sections could be folded into other pages, e.g. donate on the home page, Volunteer on the About page or get involved page. Would like a link to page on http://www.justgiving.com/
  • News - Monthly blog entries labelled 'Monthly Newsletter' - this page will in essence be a category archive for blog posts in the 'news' category. Latest headline(s) to appear on the front page.
  • Contact us - How to contact the team bringing you 'Grow
    Other elements to include are:
    • Sponsors links
    • Links to social networking site such as Facebook
    • Donate button
    • Preferably run using Wordpress
Some sites which the client has expressed she likes are as below.

Reasons for liking these sites include simple design, strict 4 colour code, image dominant and aesthetically friendly sites.

Over the next week I will be working on logo designs, wire frames, colour schemes and mock ups.

    Logo Design

I used Photoshop and Illustrator to create my logo designs. I based them on elements of gardening and developed the hands as flower idea as I really liked it. I also liked the single 'G' instead of using 'Grow Community Gardens' all the time so I have also developed that concept...

My favourite is the butterfly/hands as I think it combines the elements of gardening and community really well. I think this is the one I will use for the site.
