Week 12 - Compiling pop-it.com

In between bottles and nappies I've finally finished the Grow website :)  You can read about how I put it together and click this link to view my LiveProject.
How I created my GROW site...

My Grow site was built using open source blogging software Wordpress, which is being used more and more frequently as a CMS (Content Management System). It supports multiple users, blogging and page management, as well as thousands of free add-ons (from stores and guestbooks to SEO – search engine optimization, iPhone integration and events listings), all of which can be added with a few clicks, all from inside the site administration dashboard.

The site was built based on the Wordpress Boldy theme and framework, which has been redesigned with bright colours and floral textures to bring the content to life.

Using the Wordpress RSS widget, the BBC Gardening RSS blog feed was added to the footer and sidebar, with external news items opening in a new window (using javascript) so as to keep the reader coming back to Grow.

When adding the content, it was also possible, through RSS to add galleries through the current Picasa albums. Google Maps have also been added, with each showing the locations of both gardens, while individually highlighting the garden in question on its standalone page.

For press articles about Grow and the gardens, it is easy to write a blog and click on 'Press' under categories to add it to that particular section – just as you would blogs and news, if seperated. You can add any amount of categories!

The navigation can be re-ordered in many different ways with infinite possibilities, straight from Wordpress' built-in Appearance settings, as can the widgets and their order on the pages' footers or sidebars.

The site is easy to navigate, with a bright, memorable colour-scheme and can be navigated with ease.

Pop-it.com

As the hand in date approaches the rush is on to compile all of my work from the first semester including the Major Project Proposal, wireframes, sitemaps and gnatt charts.
